This piano piece starts very straightforwardly sounding like a lullaby with a pleasant and diatonic chord progression with a simple melodic theme. Soon some unusual chords are added, introducing both dissonance and chromaticism. The right hand starts playing a busier scalic figure. The sense of chromaticism is increased and the rhythm becomes more and more jarring and asymmetrical. Then things abruptly return to the straightforward lullaby section.
In this way the sections of ‘far away chords’ and straightforward lullaby section alternate each other. On the surface this piece is deceptively simple but constructed in a very unique and contrasting way with some tricky playing techniques and agility required of the pianist. I enjoy this very much.
